Completed UFO Project 2024: Spiraling Into Comfort: My Crochet Journey
Some projects take on a life of their own, and this spiral blanket is definitely one of them. What began as a simple idea to make something round and cozy turned into a flowing, swirling piece that feels almost alive with movement.
I love how the spiral design keeps the eye traveling around and around—like a gentle galaxy unfolding in yarn. The stitches create natural waves and texture, giving the blanket a sense of energy even when it’s lying still.
The process of working in the round can feel meditative. With each turn, I watched the spiral expand outward, slowly transforming into a full circle that drapes beautifully. The repeating motion of hook and yarn almost mirrors the spiral itself—endless, soothing, and full of rhythm.
Finishimg a UFO is a reminder of patience, of progress made one stitch at a time, and of how creativity can lead us somewhere unexpected.
This is a simple single crochet and chain worked in round rows. I edged the blanket with a soft white single crochet around. Each row was evenlly increased, including the boarder.
For now, I’m calling this my “galaxy spiral” blanket. It’s perfect for wrapping up in on chilly nights, or even laying out as a statement piece. I can’t wait to see how it grows in use and memory.
