The UFO Challenge: A Yarn-Fueled Revivalh
January 2024 brought more than just a fresh calendar—it sparked a creative reckoning. My local yarn shop launched a challenge to finish our UFOs (UnFinished Objects), and I dove in headfirst. The idea of reconnecting with forgotten projects and joining a vibrant online community was too good to pass up.
I began the search with curiosity and a touch of dread, not knowing what I’d uncover. Thirteen UFOs emerged from the shadows—tucked away in drawers, buried in baskets, and hidden in the mysterious depths of my craft closet. Each rediscovery brought a smile and a tactile joy as I ran my fingers over luxurious fibers, remembering the excitement that had once fueled each cast-on.
With optimism (and maybe a little overconfidence), I submitted ten projects to the challenge, which ran from mid-January through the end of April. Plenty of time, I thought. And while life always has its surprises, I made solid progress—finishing six projects and reigniting my passion for the rest.
More than just completed stitches, I gained momentum. I felt empowered, energized, and ready to keep going. The challenge may have ended, but my journey through these projects continues—one stitch, one skein, one story at a time.
Thank you to Stitch Witch in Bedford, Virgina for being part of this challenge that reignited my crocheting & knitting with these UFOs.
